Tis The Season of Over-Spending: Why You Shouldn't Buy a Gift for Everyone This Holiday Season

The holidays are quickly approaching so it’s time to start thinking about who you are buying gifts for if you haven’t already. Shopping for the ones you love can be one, expensive and two, exhausting especially if you don’t know what to buy anyone. It is extremely important to not over-exhaust yourself nor your bank account to try and be the “perfect gift giver” nor try to please everyone.

When it comes to shopping for gifts for my loved ones, I reflect on the year and decide who truly deserves a gift. Obviously, your family such as your spouse, children, and parents are a given but, depending on your budget, you have to ask yourself some tough questions. Should I get my sister that purse she wanted even though when I desperately needed to borrow $20 a month ago, she said no simply to say no?

Buying gifts has only gotten more expensive as the years go on. Sure, there is “Black Friday” where you can find pretty much any and everything for “cheap” and stores always have their “great deals” throughout the holiday season but you still end up spending tons of money on people you may not even like or even be speaking to next holiday season or even next week.

Now, I’m not suggesting axing out people on your holiday shopping list over simple and petty reasons, unless you feel those reasons are valid. What I am suggesting is that you truly evaluate your list, your budget, and the factors that go into you buying the gifts. For example, if you have someone on your list who never buys you anything but you know they can afford to, they shouldn’t have even made your list to begin with in my opinion.

I find that when you really look over your holiday list of all the people you “have” to get a gift for, you realize you can actually cut your list in half, come up with valid points on why you should do so, and not feel bad about it at all. So, spend your money wisely this holiday season on those who truly matter the most to you and will give you an awesome gift too!
